Vipps, cards and invoices: online payments

Which payment methods Norwegian customers expect, why Vipps matters, and how to keep checkout simple and safe.

Vipps first

Most Norwegians have Vipps on their phone, and many expect to see it at checkout next to Visa and Mastercard. Offering it can lift completed orders, especially on mobile.

Cards, invoice and instalments

Cards remain the base. For larger orders, pay-later options such as invoice or instalments are common in Norwegian shops, so decide which fits your margin and risk.

A safe checkout

Use a payment provider that handles card data (PCI DSS) and strong customer authentication (3-D Secure) so you never store card numbers. Show the total in NOK including MVA before the final click.

  • Vipps and card as standard options
  • Total price in NOK with MVA visible before payment
  • Order confirmation by email and SMS
  • Clear return and complaint terms (14-day right of withdrawal for consumers)
  • Refunds back to the original payment method
