Peppol e-invoicing for Norwegian businesses

How electronic invoicing works in Norway, why the public sector requires it and what your systems need to send and receive Peppol invoices.

Why e-invoices

Norwegian government bodies require suppliers to send electronic invoices through Peppol (the format is known as EHF). Many private companies now do the same because it removes manual entry and speeds up payment.

How it works

Your accounting system sends a structured invoice through an access point, and the buyer’s system receives it by organisation number. Nothing is retyped from a PDF, so errors drop.

What to check

Confirm your accounting software supports Peppol, register your organisation number with an access point and test with one customer first. The Bookkeeping Act (bokføringsloven) also requires you to keep records, which is five years for most documents.

  • Accounting software with Peppol support
  • Your organisation number registered with an access point
  • Structured invoice data, not scanned PDFs
  • A test invoice before going live
  • Records kept for the period the Bookkeeping Act requires
