App or website for a Norwegian business?

A simple way to decide between a mobile app, a responsive website or both, with Norwegian login and payment habits in mind.

Start with the job

If customers mostly search, compare and book, a fast website wins. If they come back daily, need push notifications or use the camera and offline features, an app earns its cost.

Norwegian habits

Norwegians log in with BankID and pay with Vipps, so both should be easy in whichever you build. A web app that installs to the home screen can cover a lot before you commit to two store apps.

Cost and upkeep

An app means iOS and Android builds, store reviews and yearly updates. A website is cheaper to start and easier to find on Google. Many firms launch the site first and add the app once usage proves the need.

  • Do customers return daily?
  • Do you need notifications or offline use?
  • Is BankID or Vipps login required?
  • Can a responsive site do the job first?
  • Is there budget for yearly updates?
