Core Web Vitals: speed for UK businesses

Three simple measurements of speed and stability, and the practical changes that move them.

By Globalsoft TeamOctober 18, 20264 min read

The three measurements

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how quickly the main content appears; aim for under 2.5 seconds
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how quickly the page responds to a tap or click; aim for under 200 milliseconds
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): how much the page jumps while loading; aim for under 0.1

Why it matters

Faster pages keep visitors engaged, help conversion and are part of the signals Google uses for search.

What usually helps

  • Compress and correctly size images
  • Serve files with long-lived caching
  • Remove scripts you do not need
  • Reserve space for images and embeds so layouts do not jump
  • Choose hosting that serves your visitors quickly

Measure, change, repeat

Use real-user data where you can, and re-test after every significant change.

Speed is a habit, not a one-off project.
