How Spanish customers pay
Cards are the most common method, but Bizum, which pays instantly with a phone number, is hugely popular. Apple Pay and Google Pay lift mobile conversion. SEPA direct debit suits subscriptions and business customers.
- Cards: Visa and Mastercard, with 3-D Secure 2 required
- Bizum: instant phone-number payments used by millions of Spanish bank customers
- Apple Pay / Google Pay: one-tap checkout
- SEPA direct debit: subscriptions and recurring invoices
- Bank transfer: large B2B orders
Redsys or Stripe
Redsys is the local virtual POS offered by many Spanish banks and supports Bizum. Stripe is strong for international sales, subscriptions and developer experience. Many businesses use both.
Invoicing and IVA
Online sales must charge IVA (21% on the mainland, IGIC in the Canary Islands) and issue compliant invoices; your software should be ready for rules such as Veri*factu and Facturae.
Checklist
Show the total price including IVA at checkout, use a secure provider, monitor failed payments and state the refund process clearly.
