Automate in this order
Start with the task that costs the most time or loses the most money, usually quoting and invoicing, then bookings or job tracking, then customer follow-up. A small custom tool or a lightly customized CRM often beats a large package that your team never fully uses.
Connect it to your books
Good software exports clean data for QuickBooks Online, Xero or Sage, keeps GST/HST on its own line and stores records you can produce on request. The CRA expects business records to be kept for six years, so choose tools with reliable backups and an export path.
