Taking payments online in Bahrain: BenefitPay, cards and gateways

How BENEFIT cards, BenefitPay, Visa and Mastercard and local gateways fit together for a Bahraini online shop, and what to test before launch.

Know the local rails

BENEFIT runs the national card network and BenefitPay, the wallet most residents already use. Offering them next to Visa and Mastercard covers most customers, and Apple Pay adds one-tap checkout on phones.

  • BENEFIT debit cards: the national network
  • BenefitPay: wallet and QR payments
  • Visa and Mastercard: credit and international cards
  • Apple Pay: one-tap mobile checkout

Pick a gateway that serves Bahrain

Gateways such as Credimax, Tap and MyFatoorah connect several methods behind one integration. Compare settlement time, fees, refund handling and how quickly your merchant account is approved.

Show VAT and totals clearly

Display prices in BHD with three decimals and show the 10% VAT line before the pay button. A total that changes on the last screen is a leading reason carts are abandoned.

Test the failure paths

Try a declined card, an abandoned payment and a double click. Confirm the order status is right in each case and that the customer sees a clear message and a way to retry.
