Taking Stripe and SumUp payments

How Irish customers pay online and which methods your shop should offer.

Cards come first

Most online payments in Ireland go through Visa and Mastercard; Apple Pay and Google Pay are strong on mobile, and Revolut has a very high number of users.

Stripe and SumUp

Stripe is common for online shops and subscriptions, SumUp for small businesses that want one provider in the shop and online. Open Banking pay-by-bank can lower fees.

Delivery and returns

Shoppers expect An Post, DPD and DHL. EU rules give a 14-day right of withdrawal, so show it and the return steps before checkout. If you sell to Northern Ireland, explain duties clearly.

Invoices

Show prices incl. 23% VAT, add a VAT number field for business buyers and match invoices to Xero or Sage.
