Start with the job to be done
Describe what the customer or your staff must do and how often. A tourist booking once a year needs a good website. A courier or technician using a tool all day may need an app.
When a website is enough
If people find you through search, use the service occasionally and mostly read, compare or book, a fast mobile-friendly website covers it and costs less to build and keep up to date.
When an app earns its cost
Apps make sense for daily use, push notifications, camera or location features, or work in places with weak connection. A web app that installs to the home screen can be a middle step.
- Daily or weekly use by the same people
- Camera, scanning, GPS or offline needs
- Staff tools where speed matters more than discovery
- A loyalty or ordering flow customers repeat often
Budget for the whole life
An app has two stores, review rules and regular updates. Plan the running cost as well as the build, and consider starting with a web version to learn what people really use.
