Data protection for Kuwaiti websites: a practical checklist

What a Kuwait-facing site should map, publish and secure under CITRA’s data privacy rules, in plain language.

Start with the data you collect

Contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, bookings, checkout and analytics all collect personal data. List each one with what it collects and why, because the rest of the checklist builds on that list.

  • Forms: name, e-mail, phone and message
  • Accounts and orders: address, ID details only where truly needed, purchase history
  • Analytics and cookies: device and browsing data
  • Third-party tools: chat, maps, video and ad pixels

Know which rules apply

In Kuwait the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) sets data privacy rules for service providers, and sector regulators add their own. This is general guidance, not legal advice, so confirm details with a Kuwaiti lawyer.

Say it clearly, ask properly

Publish a privacy notice in Arabic and English covering what you collect, why, how long you keep it and who receives it. Ask for consent where it is needed, and make withdrawing it as easy as giving it.

Keep it safe

Use HTTPS everywhere, strong admin logins with two-step verification, regular updates and backups kept apart from the live server. Collect only what you need; data you never stored cannot leak.
